Descriptive Note

Minutes of Council meetings held with press and public in attendance and minutes of committee meetings considered by Council with press and public in attendance. Handwritten and typewritten. Prior to 24 March 1975 the press and public were excluded from all committee meetings, but after that date they were permitted to attend the non-confidential part of committee meetings. Original minutes, confirmed by Mayor. The dates represent the dates of the first and last COUNCIL meetings in each volume, not the first and last Committee meetings. This pattern of dating has been used because the minutes of each committee meetings were considered and adopted at a subsequent Council meeting. The dates printed on the spines of the minute books are not consistent with this pattern. Sometimes the dates on the spines are the dates of the Council meetings in the volume and sometimes they are the dates of the committee.
