Descriptive Note

Records of the Transitional Committee established under the Local Government Amendment Act 1989 to manage the transition from the old Local Government structure created by the Local Government Commission. 

The committee consisted of representatives of the Palmerston North City Council, the Manawatu District Council, the Oroua County Council and the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions (Central Districts Region). 

The records were maintained by the Secretary of the Transitional Committee, John Annabel, who was a committee secretary in the Town Clerk's Department of the Palmerston North City Council.
