Descriptive Note

Chronological System. These records cover a wide range of subjects and relate to all departments of the Council. The letters were originally filed in hard-covered binders and were held together by metal fastners. The three letters dated 1892 were found among the 1984 letters and appear to have been misfiled in the original binder. The series is incomplete. Some of the files were removed about 1958 and their contents rearranged into a new subject order (see series 1/5/5 and 1/5/7).
