Ceremonial envelope mailed to Prime Minister Sir J G Ward, KCMG, on the opening of the New Post Office in Palmerston North on 5th February 1906.
Envelope is handcrafted from two different sheets of paper and all text is in handwritten calligraphy. Includes 4 x One Penny stamps with postmark stamps bearing the date of 5th February 1906.
Envelope states: "The Penny Postage Stamps hereto affixed are meant to indicate that the inauguration of this System was mainly due to your efforts. Sir J. G. Ward, K.C.M.G., Postmaster General Palmerston North. Posted on the occasion of the opening of the New Post Office at Palmerston North on the 5th Feby 1906 by M. Cohen Mayor on behalf of the citizens."
