Index Cards to 7/6/3 Maps and Plans
- Description
-
A collection of index cards for the Planner's Department maps and plans held in series PNCC 7/6/3. They are organised according to a classification system that was in operation from 1978 until c.1990. This system used a numeric/alpha/numeric code (e.g. 18/M/2) and includes maps and plans that were originally part of a pre-1978 classification system (subseries 7/6/2). The series was discontinued after the introduction of a computer based drafting system, G.I.S. (Geographic Information System).
The first number designates a suburb or the type of map/plan. The letters refer to different subjects: A - airport; B - buildings and housing development; E - schools; I - industrial; L - land use and ownership; M - miscellaneous; N - street numbering; O - published maps; P - population and statistics; Q - square; R - reserves; S - subdivision and survey; T - roading and parking; X - bases; Z - district scheme. A map and key explaining the numbers and letters is included with the index cards.
Some of the series only exists in the form of 35mm aperture cards, the originals having been destroyed after the microfilming process was completed c.1978-1979.
The plans were organised into this numbering sequence by Owen Rogers and Diane Ramage/Fazzini, under the direction of David Evans, Deputy city Planner. Plans were drawn by the Town/City Planning Department by staff of the Palmerston North City Council.
